The park was built on the site of a demolished house. It has been officially named Manayunk Park until 2004. However, residents have referred to the park as pretzel park since as far back as anyone can remember. City council and the Mayor passed a bill in 2004 officially renaming Manayunk Park to Pretzel Park. No one is quite sure where the name Pretzel Park originates. Some believe that it is because of the pretzel shape of the walkways running through the park.
